The following information is
intended to assist in choosing the Fischer product best suited for your
project and provide general engineering reference data.
Connector shells and
external components are constructed from precision-machined brass,
stainless steel, or aluminum. Standard metal-shell connector bodies are
fabricated from nickel-plated brass with an attractive natural-satin or
black-matte chrome finish. Internal metal components, such as cable clamps
and guides, are machined from brass and finished with a chemical nickel
plating.
For special applications, we can
provide some or all internal and external metal parts in stainless steel
(Type 316L) or aluminum (DIN 3.0615).

Connector shells of the 405 and
4032 Series are fabricated from a proprietary engineering plastic. This
material provides a high level of performance sufficient for many
applications, with the advantages of increased electrical isolation,
chemical resistance, lighter weight, and reduced cost. These connectors
are impervious to thousands of medical sterilization cycles via autoclave
or liquid germicide and withstand operating temperatures of +200°C

Contact blocks and other insulating components are manufactured from
various high-performance materials, typically PEEK
(polyether-etherketone), PBT (polybutylene-terephthalate), or Teflon .
They provide superior performance over competing materials in operating
temperature ranges, as well as resistance to chemicals, ionizing
radiation, and water absorption. For unusual applications, ceramic and
other specialized dielectric materials are also available.

Contacts are the heart of any connector. Fischer’s unique contacts
were developed to provide a superb combination of reliability, low
resistance, and long operational life. Beginning with a proprietary
design, all Fischer contacts are machined from solid metal, then plated
with nickel and gold. Finally, each contact is subjected to
computer-controlled testing. These processes ensure superb performance and
reliability in a wide variety of operational environments.
